Rogue/Bard: Both classes gain Expertise. If you want a character that has many skill proficiencies and high rolls with those skills, I highly recommend a Rogue/Bard multiclass. Arcane Trickster Rogues will gain more spells and spell slots in thanks to the full spellcaster levels of the Bard.
Can druids wear jewelry?
You wouldn’t want to be too much of a purist about metal, as that would mean druids couldn’t wear most rings and magical jewelry. IIRC, a torc is a typically druid item, and torcs are usually metallic. So they can wear some metal items, at least.

As an aside I already came up with a way for the druid to get magic items that don’t have metal. Never expect an item to go to anyone specific, people are fickle. Also, a druid can wear metal rings, use metal weapons and such. Druids can freely wear metal, just not as armor.

As the last paragraph clearly states, artificers’ form of spellcasting is unique in the way it is described and roleplayed, but mechanically it has just the same components as any other class’ spellcasting. As such, other spellcasters can perceive artificers casting a spell, and can counterspell them.
Why do warlocks have so few spell slots?
As for why Warlock has fewer spell slots, one of the reasons is because no other caster can deal that kind damage with a Cantrips spell. Because of eldritch blast and it’s invocations. Even when you have no spell slots remaining, warlocks are quite good.

Counterspell is arguably of questionable fairness in regular play (depending on how your DM rules spell-identification) if not for the reason you suspect. While you can make an ability check to counter a spell higher than 3rd level, you can also simply cast Counterspell at a higher level to avoid making any check.
