Keep your Waterworks Robe/Boots until Darkmoor. The only pieces of gear that should be changing frequently should be your ring, amulet, athame and deck, so keep an eye out for upgrades for those. You’ll get your biggest upgrades to Rings and Amulets when you reach Morganthe.

Zigzag gear is my personal favorite. It’s not worth farming though when you replace it without Darkmoor in 10 levels with Tartarus. Do Atlantea once to get Tartarus. Then farm Cronus in Tartarus for blade of the felled Titan and Hades crit wand and farm Glad in Olympus for Alpha and Omega ring.
