There is no canon (there are several, if you must). And I like it that way. Even if the story would fit somehow, Secret Rings and Black Knight would still be spin-offs because they don’t have “traditional” Sonic gameplay, but are built around a gimmick (the Wiimote).
Is Sonic and the Secret Rings a good game?
It’s far from perfect, but I believe the good in it outweighs what I don’t like as much about the experience. For the most part, I had fun playing this one, and I believe it’s worthy enough to be enjoyed as a game (Not as a dartboard if you’re a Sonic “fan”). Just be sure to expect a bit of flawed play along the way.
