Is Catan like risk?

What is the difference between Settlers of Catan and Family Edition?

Biggest difference is the board, it’s not as modular – as in it’s a 6 piece jigsaw puzzle. Makes setup way quicker, but confines the amount of possible configurations (not a huge deal). The only other difference is the pieces are all plastic versus wooden. This probably keeps the cost down for the family edition.
