What happened to Michael Shanks?
At the end of season five, Shanks didn’t renew his contract for a reason as old as time — he had creative disagreements with the writers. Shanks didn’t get terribly specific about the reasons for his departure, but he’s claimed his character Daniel Jackson wasn’t being used to his full potential.
Did Daniel die on sg1?
He dies of radiation poisoning in season 5’s “Meridian” and Ascends to a higher plane until he reappears in Season 7’s “Fallen (part 1)”. He is killed by RepliCarter at the very end of “Reckoning” and is seen at a midway point between Ascension and mortality before finally retaking human form in “Threads”.

According to the Asgard they moved on from our part of space long ago. In fact, the Ancients learned to ascend to a higher plane of existence when a great plague swept across the Milky Way Galaxy. Many died out, but those who learned to ascend shed their corporeal form gained a new sense of purpose.
