It’s a really good idea to play them. They are very much worth playing, and it gets even better if you have a GBA Pokemon (RSE/FRLG), a GBA, and a gamecube adapter. They aren’t required, though, but it would just mean you’d have legendaries/special pokemon to move up the chain of generations or play with on the GBA.

gales of darkness has a lot of stuff that makes it an overall easier game. However it does have the benefit of having more Pokemon to get. Colosseum also is more difficult to 100% complete than XD as it the process of purifying shadow Pokemon is a bit more tedious.
