Darth Maul character clearly heavily evolved between The Phantom Menace and The Clone Wars. In TPM, he’s clearly a villain. He’s an assassin who goes straight up against our heroes, killing one of them, all to benefit the plan of the Big Bad Guy to overthrow the galaxy.
