How do artificer spells work?
As an artificer, you use tools when you cast your spells. The same principle applies when you prepare your spells. As an artificer, you don’t study a spellbook or pray to prepare your spells. Instead, you work with your tools and create the specialized items you’ll use to produce your effects.
What can an artificer do?
Artificers are arcane leaders. They can use rods, staves, and wands as implements. Artificers can also use arcane spells called infusions to imbue objects with magical power, and focus on buffing, healing and protecting allies. Many of their powers relate to weapons or armor.
When can an artificer change spells?
You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of artificer spells requires time spent in tinkering with your spellcasting focuses: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list.

Basically yeah, just got into the armorer subclass and one of my friends said I can’t wear shields due to the gauntlets. Nor any other weapons (not really concerned about this though cause going full defense).

Can you cast 2 spells with action surge?
Since Action Surge gives you a whole other action and not a another turn you can certainly cast another spell so long as you did not use a Bonus action spell. For instance, if you cast a second spell using Action Surge, you aren’t limited to casting a cantrip with it.
How do you roll to hit with spells?
Fire Bolt is an attack spell and you roll the d20 for the attack, add your spellcasting stat modifier and proficiency bonus (which is the to hit stat on DnDBeyond), and the DM will compare the result to the AC of the creature. You roll your d10 for the damage on a hit.
