He sadly became evil, while he didn’t particularly like Humanity before, the Gravemind’s torment broke him which led him to despise Humanity. This was done to the Didact as a way from the Gravemind to tell the Ecumene that the war would be lost.

Didact did not die, he was teleported to Composer’s Abyss, where John and Blue team track the him down. A fight issues between Blue team and Didact. A Monitor 859 Static Carillon, also helps John by teleporting both them and Didact to Installation 03’s control center.

The Ur-Didact designed shield worlds to combat the flood and they were later repurposed as a way to survive the halo array.
Why does the Didact have telekinesis?
The Didact could use what are called constraint fields to allow him to manipulate things without touching them. You have to remember that the Forerunner possess technology that is order of magnitude more complex than us. I think it has something to do with the fact that the forerunners were masters of gravity.
