Can you do the temples in Ocarina of Time in any order?

The forest, fire and water temples can be beaten in any order, but without the bow I think you miss either the dungeon map or the compass in the fire temple and you have to be incredibly careful with keys in the water dungeon and make some fun jumps.

Do you do Shadow or Spirit Temple first?

Either can come first. The Shadow Temple is usually done first as most people enter Kakariko and start the cutscene which gives you the Nocturne of Shadow. However, the Quest Status screen shows that the Spirit Temple comes first. Neither temple was intended to come first, but if any, it was the Spirit Temple.

You can actually complete the Fire Temple before the Forest Temple. You do not need the bow at all to progress in the Fire Temple. The bow is only needed to shoot the eye in one room in order to collect a dungeon map.

Go back to the main hall and enter the temple. Raise the water level and exit through the door. Run around the parameter of the second floor until you see an open tunnel with a hlongshot target. You can bypass the spikes by using the longshot.

Yes. I’ve done it lots of times. You can complete the Adult Saga dungeons in any order, except for the Shadow Temple which can only be entered after the Forest, Fire and Water dungeons have been beaten.
