My original Sims 2 jewel case (clear, hard plastic) ~short, square case ~ has the serial code on the bottom outside cover. It has to have the inside back cover… My original sims 2 is also in the jewel case with the serial number on the back. My expansions came in the larger cases and the serial number is on the book.
