Can you choose deployment location?

You do not get to choose where to deploy. Not usually. You may request a duty assignment that will actively place you in rotation for combat theater but it is not possible to join specifically for the purpose of deploying to war.

How do I know if my unit is deploying?

If your unit is deploying, they will be on the patch chart and the chain of command will know about it. If the unit is scheduling more FTX, classes, etc in order to gear up for deployment, that implies that they know about the deployment, which means you must be on the patch chart.

How often does an Air Force unit deploy?
