Is tinnitus serious?

Here’s an excerpt from the Mayo Clinic: “Although bothersome, tinnitus usually isn’t a sign of something serious. Although it can worsen with age, for many people, tinnitus can improve with treatment. Treating an identified underlying cause sometimes helps.” (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2019).

Is an aura a seizure?

An unusual sensation (aura) may precede a temporal lobe seizure, acting as a warning. Not everyone who has temporal lobe seizures has auras, and not everyone who has auras remembers them. The aura is actually the first part of a focal seizure before consciousness is impaired.

Why do I keep getting auras in my eyes?

Ocular migraines can develop with or without the accompanying pain of a classic migraine. During an ocular migraine, or migraine with aura, you may see flashing or shimmering lights, zigzagging lines, or stars. Some people describe psychedelic images. It may also cause blind spots in your field of vision.

How long can aura last?

Auras commonly last 10 to 30 minutes. A sensory aura is also common. It can occur at the same time as the visual aura, directly afterwards or simply on its own.

Can an aura last all day?

There is currently a limited amount of research involving prolonged aura (PA) in migraine—having 1 or more aura symptoms lasting between 60 minutes and 7 days. However, a recent study has found that prolonged auras are common and are phenotypically similar to other auras (non-PAs).

Can you have multiple auras in one day?

Yes, some of us do get multiple auras during the same attack. My brother & I both get migraines where we experience multiple scintillating scotomas lasting up to an hour EACH while continuing to have pain throughout each round of aura (i.e. the migraine hasn’t progressed into postdrome).
