Assuming you have already rung both bells, here’s what you should do.

Ignore the demon, save it for later.
Hit illusory wall in the elevator room before Demon Ruins.
Go back to the Blighttown swamp, rest at the bonfire, then explore the opposite side of the swamp.
Take the elevator up and follow the path up to Firelink.
