The RTX 3080 has already been released by the time i’m writing this , however it is very difficult to find one due to the extremely high demand. People have been waiting 20+ hours in a line, sometimes showing up to a sold out store. It’s best to wait even more, especially because of the price gouging made by scalpers.
Should I wait for Nvidia ampere?
It gets you the best bang for your buck. Waiting an extra few months for Ampere could mean the difference in getting an extra year or two out of your next card, depending on the performance improvements, and particularly with Ampere since it will be 7nm.

And the current rate of GPU’s can be tagged “overpriced”, since the available ones in the market are double or sometimes triple of the original price. You should probably wait for 4–5 months before buying a new GPU.

Half life alyx doesn’t have much graphics differences between low and high. It runs almost perfectly fine on high on a 1060 so a 1070 will be more than fine.
