Why do people run detect over protect?

Protect has wider distribution so mons using Imprison will usually have Protect, so if you can learn Detect its advantageous to do so. That’s the reason why Detect is used in competitive play at any rate.

Can I use detect After protect?

No you can’t use them together. If you use Detect, Protect or Endure, using any of them again will make the accuracy 50%. So it could work for a few turns but will fail pretty quickly. The chance of succeeding 3 times in a row is only 25%.

Can you alternate between detect and protect?

Functionally, they perform identically and use the same counter (you cannot bypass double protect odds by alternating between protect and detect). However, Detect has less PP which lets it break Encore lock faster, and gets around Imprison + Protect.

How many times can you protect in a row?

Every opponent that used Protect has it work on a 100% chance twice in a row, sometimes three times. If it ever fails, it works twice in a row again.
