Do they break? Everything breaks. There is one regenerating weapon in the game, but that too, breaks. They just mean the elemental weapons prefixed with “Great” as in the Great Flameblade or Great Thunderblade.

Chests in shrines do not reset with every blood moon. Once they’re opened, they’re done. However, there are locations throughout the map where elemental weapons spawn naturally and do reset after each blood moon. They always respawn if their out anywhere, or in certain chests.
How do you get the thunder spear?
It can be found in Hyrule Field and Hyrule Ridge regions according to its common locations section in the Hyrule Compendium. One can also be obtained from a Treasure Chest in the Shae Katha Shrine.
