Can a creature have multiple instances of Lifelink?

Can a creature have multiple instances of Lifelink?

When initially introduced Lifelink was a triggered ability. If a permanent had multiple instances of lifelink, then each of these separate abilities would trigger independently ultimately causing the controller of of these abilities to gain more life than the damage dealt.

Does Lifelink trigger separately?

the lifelinks trigger separately, so you get 2 counters. This is not correct. Lifelink does not trigger, you simply gain life when a creature with it deals damage as an inherent property of the damage being dealt. There are no “Lifelink triggers” going onto the stack when lifelink gains you life.

Can you have double Lifelink?

702.15f Multiple instances of lifelink on the same object are redundant. Lifelink is currently worded as a static ability that causes lifegain as a consequence of the damage; since there’s only one damage event here, there can only be one lifegain event no matter how many lifelinks there are.

Does Lifelink work on abilities?

If a creature has lifelink, any amount of damage it deals allows its controller to gain that much life. And that’s any damage: combat and non-combat damage alike. So, if your creature with lifelink “fights” another creature outside of combat or deals damage via an activated ability, you’ll still gain the life!

Do instances of Lifelink stack?

Before the rules changes in Magic 2010, lifelink was a triggered ability, and it used the stack along with combat damage. This meant that its life gain if caused by combat, would arrive too late to prevent the player from losing the game due to combat damage from the same combat.

Does Spirit Link stack with Lifelink?

They do also stack with the ‘new’ Lifelink (which itself does not), so you can enchant, lets say, a Baneslayer Angel with Spirit Link, to have ‘twofold’ Lifelink (which behave differently tho, as the new keyword is instant like a replacement effect, and the second, older one being triggered, has the stack ‘delay’).

What kind of triggers do you get when you gain life?

If you love gaining life and getting triggered abilities out of it, you’ll want to run multiple lifelink creatures. Cards like Ajani’s Pridemate and Archangel of Thune will trigger for each lifelink creature you control that deals damage (attacking, blocking or otherwise).

Why does whenever you gain life work in magic?

The reason it works this way is because the rules explain that “Whenever you gain life” really means “Whenever a source causes you to gain life.” So it counts each lifelink creature in combat a source of lifegain, even though they are all dealing damage at once you’re gaining all that life at once. Triggers and life-gain are really fun!

What do baneslayers do when you gain life?

Baneslayers deal 5 damage each during the first strike combat damage step for 15 damage and you will gain 15 life. Pridemate will trigger 3 times and when those triggers resolve it will have 3 +1/+1 counters on it. Pridemate will then deal 5 damage during the normal combat damage step for 20 total damage.
