What happens if I don’t wax my snowboard?
Snowboard wax coats the bottom of the board to provide protection and to repel the water from the snow which allows you to glide better across the snow. If you don’t wax your snowboard you will not be able to ride as fast and your board will not be protected and at a higher risk for rust and abrasion or damage.
How do you know if your snowboard needs to be waxed?
You can tell when it’s time to get your board waxed when you can see dry areas on your base. Dry areas look like small white lines or like an allover white haze. You will generally have a good healthy board if you can get it waxed every 3-4 times you ride.
Can you scrape too much wax off a snowboard?
All that useful wax has absorbed into the base (so long as you let your base cool sufficiently before scraping). So, make sure you scrape off as much of the excess wax as you can (we’ll be fine tuning this in the “finishing touches” in step 7).
Should I sharpen my snowboard edges?
The board’s edges should be sharpened when there are nicks, burrs, rust, or the edge is dull. Sharpening the edges helps to keep your board in top shape and give you a smoother ride.
Is rust on snowboard edges bad?
Not bad at all. It happens easily and is also easy to fix. If the rust is really bad you can get it off by re beveling the edges with a file, which you may want to have done at a shop.
How sharp should my snowboard edges be?
A standard edge tune is 90 degrees, though for more aggressive carving or hard snow you might opt for 89 degrees or less. (If you’re really serious about your edges you can even adjust the angle of the base edge too, though this level of precision is usually the realm of racers).
